An Extraordinary Foreign Body
A 30 year old gentleman met with a motor bike accident, and presented to us with bilateral blindness.

X-ray and CT scan of his head region showed a surprisingly large foreign body lodged behind both his eyeballs (Figure 1)! It had probably entered through his right lower eyelid, and the left optic nerve was severely damaged. The foreign body was passing through his sinuses, and was 2mm close to the delicate brain structures!
Sensing visual potential on his right eye, Dr Naik decided to remove the foreign body from the left side. It was not easy to convince a blind injured person to undergo a surgery on the left side, when something had hit him on the right. But little did he know what was lying in there!
Dr Naik and his colleagues performed a 3 hour long surgery that required removal of the lateral part of the bony socket, followed by careful deep
dissection within the bony orbit to remove the foreign body. It turned out to be a 7 cm long broken piece of his motorcycle hand brake (Figure 2)!
Post operatively, the right eye gained normal vision, whereas the left eye continued to be blind due to irreversible nerve injury.

A New look and a New Life!
An extreme form of eye protrusion affected this 60 year old patient due to his deranged Thyroid gland. Though his vision was fine, the appearance had completely restricted his social life, and he chose to wear dark glasses all the time.

A three wall orbital decompression was for performed for him through hidden incisions, and within weeks, his appearance changed completely. Today, he is back to his profession with a new look, and his friends and physicians find it difficult to locate the surgical scar! Thanks to the advanced decompression techniques practiced by Dr Naik.
